Studies have shown that the combination of different procedures for conditions such as acne, rosacea, and sun damage as well as for enhancing our appearance can have greater benefits than using one treatment at a time.
Rosacea, a chronic skin condition involving inflammatory papules and redness, is treated with the use of oral and topical medications. Treatments such as photorejuvenation and laser treatments can reduce both the appearance and root cause of rosacea and are effective in combination with topical and oral treatments.
Acne is traditionally treated with over-the-counter and/or prescriptions including oral medication. Isolaz, an acne light treatment that combines vacuum and painless broadband light to deep cleanse and purify your pores, can be used in combination with topicals. Blue light can also be used to treat acne and uses a specific wavelength of light to kill bacteria. Photodynamic therapy is often used in place of drugs such as Accutane for patients with severe acne. Finally, a variety of laser procedures can be used to reduce the appearance of acne scars.
Sunblock is a key to preventing sun damage and skin cancer. Topicals are used at times to treat precancerous conditions; however, studies have shown that photodynamic therapy using lasers or intense pulsed light can decrease the numbers of precancerous actinic keratoses and even prevent future skin cancers. Additionally, photodynamic therapy can dramatically improve the appearance of skin.
Aesthetically, combining topical and laser treatments with fillers such as Restylane, Perlane, and Juvederm can dramatically improve the appearance of lines, wrinkles as well as the appearance of the skin. Fat also may be taken from an area of the body such as the abdomen to fill deep lines and wrinkles leading to long-term effectiveness as well as improvement in the appearance of the skin.
